I recently met a relatively new solo esthetician who told a client they didn't need to come in for weekly facials, even though the client wanted to. So instead, she comes twice a month. What would you do in this situation?

When I gently asked her why she'd turned the client away from weekly visits, the esthetician paused and admitted, "It just felt like too much money. I couldn't take all of that. And it's not really necessary for her skin to get facials every week."

But here's something important to remember:

Every client is unique. their needs shift. Their reasons for coming to you are often deeper than they seem. And not all of those reasons are visible in the mirror.

In fact, this particular client had followed the esthetician from her student clinic into her solo practice choosing to pay 5 times more per treatment than she once did.

Why?

Because she didn't just come for skincare. She came for how the treatment made her feel.

We live in a world that is starved of touch. Many people spend their days communicating through screens with little to no meaningful face-to-face contact. Human touch is nurturing, present and can be profoundly healing. It creates connection. It grounds us. It restores a sense of calm.

This isn't just poetic. It's physiological.

When you offer great touch during a treatment, you're triggering an incredible cascade of biochemical reactions in your client's body. These include:

Oxytocin ~ the "bonding hormone," which enhances trust, deepens emotional connection and promotes feelings of safety and well being.

Dopamine ~ associated with pleasure and motivation, helping clients feel uplifted and positive after a treatment.

Seratonin ~ a key player in mood regulation, contributing to relaxation and emotional balance.

Endorphins ~ natural painkillers that reduce discomfort and elevate mood.

Reduced cortisol ~ the stress hormone, which when lowered calms the nervous system, reduces internal inflammation supporting skin health.

All of this is happening beneath the surface while you work. So yes, skincare matter but the experience of care, connection and intentional touch matters just as much if not more.

That's why your touch techniques must feel as good as they look. Because not all massage feels great. But the techniques I teach do! If you're ready to deepen your skills, reconnect with the why behind what you do and learn advanced, feel-good methods that leave your clients glowing from the inside out....

Take a course. Refresh your skills. Reignite your passion.
